Full Description
Bronze seal matrix, circular with a single loop on the reverse, centre has a bridled horse's head and a surrounding inscription - S'THOME - NAVE D'BOXTET ('Seal of Thomas Nave of Boxted') - circa C13 or C14. (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s)(S1).
Shield shaped bronze harness mount found with a metal detector (S2). The shield bears the following coat of arms - azure, a bend cotised between two lions rampant or, in blue enamel and gilt bronze, however the latter is now nearly all missing (? through over-cleaning). There is the remnant of some kind of fixing on the back. The arms are probably those of the de Bohun family, Earls of Northants, etc, who were lords of Elmsett and Offton in C14 - the use of only two lions instead of six was probably dictated by the size of the mount, 17 x 15mm.
