Full Description

The first Mildenhall Workhouse was located here to the south-west of the church from the 1720s. The benefactor was Thomas Hanmer (Speaker for the House of Commons) who also endowed the adjacent almshouses. In 1836 the new Mildenhall Union took over the workhouse and it was enlarged (S2). Part extant (see listed building national ref.430503). In 1894-5 a new workhouse was built North of King's Way on the East of Mildenhall (see MNL 330).
