Full Description

Thorney Hall: site of. Remains converted into a maltings in 1912 (S2). Location shown on an estate map in private possession (S3)(S4). Now built over.
Hodskinson's 1783 map with avenue to NW to Stowupland Road (S1). Note: Thorney was a manor of Stowmarket and Thorney Hall, a sub manor. A market was listed for Thorney Manor in 1086 and a grant of a fair and market was granted to Thorney Hall Manor in 1338. Thorney Hall was said to have been the seat of the King's Bailiff from 1086 - C12 (S2).
