Summary

Small rectangular moat measuring 50m by 40m. The east arm is partly filled and the remainder now dry. Access to the island was probably by causeway, now incorporated into the filling of the east arm.

Full Description

Moat on Highnoon Lane, Withersfield. Unoccupied. N corner of green. Three sides of rectangle within Gatesbury Copse or Wood (S1)(S2).
Formerly occupied (up until circa 16th century) according to local historian.

This site was recorded (until 23/1/2009) incorrectly in HER as being in Chantry Farm (actually should have read Charity Farm, though actually was never part of Charity Farm holdings).
