Full Description

Five concentrations of clay pipe fragments observed in a ploughed field: (A) TM 2548 8144; (B) TM 2557 8147; (C) TM 2569 8151; (D) TM 2560 8156; (E) TM 2545 8157. At (F) TM 2549 8153 there was a concentration of red fired clay fragments and brick fragments but no pipes; at (G) TM 2565 8148 there were a number of white clay kiln bars and a few pipes, these lay in a line parallel to a ditch and may have been dredged out of the ditch at some time (S1). The pipes date from circa 1660-1700, all have flat bases without makers marks. The pipes found at (E) include some with heart-shaped bases and some with a rouletted line across the base.
Possibly to be associated with Thomas Brown(e) of Bungay (fl. 1650-1686) and Thomas Parsley of Redenhall in Norfolk (fl. 1692-1750)(S3). See also WYB 023, 029 and 037.
According to latest maps (2005), field now underwater as part of a lake. C. McLannahan, 06/09/2005
