Full Description

Pottery scatter in long narrow field, comprising a small group of late IA sand tempered sherds (9 sherds) and a possible crucible fragment of triangular IA type (similar to Burgh examples - see BUG 002); and a large group of Rom sherds, C1-C2, mainly grey wares (high proportion of them micaceous). In the centre of the scatter is an area of redness (circa 120 x 120 feet), iron concretions and some slag - ?? some sort of iron working site, period unknown (S1).
The scatter overlaps into the field to the N where, in addition to grey wares and a possible sand tempered IA rim, there was a small fragment of overfired pottery showing internal signs of folds, purpose unknown (S2). See also Rom.
