Full Description

Inhumation cemetery. Discovered in 1957 by workmen installing oil tank at SW corner of Medical Supply building.
1959: Other bones found along W and E side of building - excavations followed along W found Sax cemetery, although limits not defined. Grave goods include annular, cruciform, square-headed and small-long brooches, one sword, bracelets, belt clasps, beads, an iron knife, a bronze pin, tweezers, shield boss and also remains of cloth, wrist clasps, girdlehangers, two silver rings and one pottery bowl (S1)(S2)and fragments of a silver bracteate (S2,fig 7b). Correspondence between G Briscoe and Dr Pizer in 1959-1960 includes list of grave goods from 33 (inhumation) graves (S3).
