Full Description

Moat.
Med finds from NW corner (1982): bronze horse-harness pendant, rectangular, with punched decoration; bronze token, French, probably C14-C15. Landowner reports that N & E arms of the moat were dredged with a drag line circa 1960. His father-in-law had the platform levelled off in 1940s/50s. Before that it had been a slightly irregular surface with NW quarter distinctly higher, top soil was pushed down to raise the SE quarter. Moat usually dry except E arm which had been linked to a drain in 1950s and ran wet in winter. The `bulb-like' extension of the ditch to the moat island was referred to by old residents as the `fish ponds' (S1).
