Full Description
Early C14 bronze heraldic horse harness pendant found circa 1976 in the garden of 8 Chippenham Road (S1). It bears a saltire engrailed, but unfortunately all trace of the colouring has been lost. These are probably the arms of the Tibelot or Tiptoft family, who owned land in Nettlestead and Barrow and were summoned to Parliament as Barons in 1308. A very similar pendant from Edington, Wiltshire, was exhibited in the 'Age of Chivalry' exhibition at the Royal Academy 1987-1988 (S2).
Formerly recorded as FRK MISC
