Full Description

Rectangular enclosure, approximately 125m x 60m, with a central division. Just E of the five ring ditches, TYN 037-041. Within a complex field system, TYN 011 (S1).
A sub-divided trapezoidal ditched enclosure of probably prehistoric date is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs to the south of Innocence cottage in Trimley St Martin parish, centred on circa TM27103891. The enclosure is approximately 90 metres in length, from the narrowest point at its north-east end where it is circa 60 metres wide, to the south-west end which is circa 90 metres wide. The enclosure appears to be divided into cells or small fields, with a possible sub-enclosure about 20 metres square abutting the south-eastern boundary ditch at circa TM27143889. A very narrow ditch appears to enclose this sub-enclosure. This may be the remains of an earlier phase of enclosure, from which the trapezoidal complex expanded. A linear polygonal cropmark to the immediate north-east of this enclosure may be the remains of further field boundaries or enclosure, but alternatively could be geological in origin. A number of probable Bronze Age Barrows can be see within the area of a probably much later date field system to the west (see TYN 037-041 and TYN 011). (S3-S7)
