Monument record EBV 007 - Artefact scatter of unknown date, including many Mesolithic artefacts e.g. awls and needles.

`Old river bed, many Mes artefacts, awls, needles etc. Also harpoons and a lower jaw of a child. Carved ivory bear, carved wood ? deer carving on bone', marked on 6 inch record map by (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) in 1982 (S1). Area marked on map now largely eroded away.
`(see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). The ancient river bed of black peaty soil. For a long time the source of artefacts in flint, bone and wood - Mes to Neo. Also a complete human lower jaw, stained black throughout. At one time in the Calvin Wells collection, now dispersed. About 50 years ago a complete wooden harpoon was found here by a farm worker, Mr Say. It was about two feet in length, with barbs and decorated with incised concentric circles - believed to be still in the family possession. Also found by Mr Say, a crude carving in ivory of a bear, deep brown and partly fossilised ? late Pal. Three other small pieces of harpoons of very hard wood were found in recent years. Some bone needles, probably Maglemosean age are known. There is a piece of animal rib upon which is carved the outline of an animal - perhaps a deer and a fairly good carving of a running horse or deer in hard wood. One bone fabricator has turned up - with markings thereupon of its having use in pressing fine flakes from flint implements. Finally, a piece of very dark wood, thin and flat, with a low relief carving of a ? bird - possibly Viking in age' (S2). (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). A wooden handle for a flint blade, possibly a sickle; from the old river bed at Easton Broad. Total length 38 cms, the recess for the blade 17 cms, greatest depth 4.5 cms. Very well preserved' (S2). Original length not certain due to excessive shrinkage and distortion, but at least 20 cms. Diameter of original axe head about 5 cms. This also from the river bed' (S2). `520 794. A wooden weaving comb with a decoration of dots. Also from the old river bed' (S2).
Probably all ethnographic imports(?).
Note: The 'river bed' peats etc, are probably the remains of the eastern part of the former Easton Broad.
