Full Description

Large group of pottery sherds mostly fairly fresh condition, found in a feature or features during construction of an ornamental pond. Area examined showed re-deposited boulder clay with darker layers or later features in the top; extent not definable. Pottery also found beneath the house (which is circa C16). Site lies near the N end of Bacton Green as shown on Hodkinson's map in C18. Pottery includes coarse wares and glazed jugs. One sherd Rom colour-coated base, pierced, probable "collectors item" in same feature (S1).

1994: Site visit to inspect section hand dug into the south half of a ditch running parallel to the adjacent road. The ditch is 2.4m deep with a fill of mid grey very clayey loam and contained oyster shell and medieval courseware (S2).
