Full Description
Four ESax brooches reputedly `found at Lakenheath' in possession of (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) (dealer) in circa 1982:- `A virtually indentical pair' of square- headed brooches (numbered 1752 & 1753) `bronze originally tinned'. `Legs have 2 quadruple cross-ribs, the heads have half a dozen verticaly incised lines and each has six dot and circle impressions. The heads have faintly knurled eges', length circa 7.3 cms, width circa 3.8 cms; a cruciform brooch (numbered 1571) with remains of gilding with zoomorphic foot & remains of iron spring, length circa 9.8 cms, width 5.3 cms; a square headed brooch (numbered 1572) with `chip carved geometric patterns' & remains of iron spring. Red applied enamel around small square on bow crest and within rectangle immediately above foot, length circa 8.4 cms, width 4.6 cms (S1).
