Full Description

Hoard of 202 silver `silquae' + 2 stamped silver foil discs found in intact, small, narrow mouthed jar on 6 April 1982.
7 April 1982: Site visit. Findspot on top of a sandhill sloping steeply down to W and more gently to S, into peaty soil. This and a second sandhill to SW were devoid of finds (S1).
Coins include those of Constantius II (AD 337-361), Julian (360-363), Valentinian I (364-375), Valens (364-378), Gratian (367-383), Valentinian II (375- 392), Theodosius (379- 395), Magnus Maximus (383- 388), Flavius Victor (387- 388), Eugenius (392- 394) and Arcadius (383- 408)(S2). Some clipped including two latest coins of Arcadius, whose comparative condition "suggests their addition in antiquity to a pre- existing `hoard'". Includes at least four groups of die linked coins, one linked by 3 coins. Possiblity of local contemporary forgeries (S2)(S3).
8 June 1982: coins declared Treasure Trove (S3).
Formerly in Brandon, now in Lakenheath parish.
