Full Description
A World War II strongpoint is visible on the west side of New Cut (extending from TM 533838 to TM 534834). The strongpoint is under construction in 1940 and by 1941 comprises two pillboxes with associated trench systems (at TM 53388373 and TM 53398348), overlooking New Cut and the beach to the east, with a double line of barbed wire to the west and a single line to the south. By 1943, the trench systems have been expanded to form an extended line along the whole length of the strongpoint and continuing to the south and west (to the north of Benacre Broad, TM 53168331) (S1-4). The site has since been partially eroded by the sea.
Initially numbered as BNC 029 during pilot survey of intertial area. Re-numbered Nov 2004
