Full Description

Anti-aircraft obstructions in a field to the south of Lodge Road, Walberswick (S1). There is a central ditch running N-S for c 500m, with shorter ditches coming off the main ditch at right angles. The features show as ditches with small, circular piles of spoil adjacent to them. This set of ditches is still clearly visible on an aerial photograph from 1953 (S2).

January 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The anti-glider ditches described above are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S3), along with many practice trenches within the same field, and possible bomb craters to the east, which have not been mapped as they are outside the scope of the current project. The anti-glider ditches are still discernible on recent Lidar imagery (S4). The anti-glider ditches have also been previously recorded as SHER WLB 022.
