Full Description

A stretch of sea bank, c 1.8km in length, is visible, running between TM47447297 & TM48997383 on Westwood and Corporation Marshes, on aerial photographs from 1945 (S1). The sea bank would have been part of the flood defence system in this area, and is quite likely to date back to the post-medieval period. The bank is depicted as an earthwork on the OS County Series 1st Ed 25" map of c1884, which again suggests a post-medieval origin for this feature. There is a further short section of bank at TM48907378, which may have been associated with this larger stretch of bank. It appears to be a fragment of a longer bank which has since been eroded away.

January 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths National Mapping Programme.
The linear bank described above continues into the parish of Blythburgh and is visible on aerial photographs (S2-S6) in this area. It is depicted on Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 mapping and has therefore not been mapped.
E. Ford (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 21st January 2015.
