Full Description

Possible plot boundaries of potentially Post Medieval or even Medieval date are visible as cropmarks of ditches on aerial photographs, centred on TM 23483605 to the west of Church End, Shotley. The boundaries form a rectangular enclosures, bounded on the southern side by Shotley Walk. The enclosures are of a similar size to some of the extant plots in Church End and are aligned on the road, suggesting that they may be Post Medieval or even Medieval plot boundaries. See SLY 029 for the nearby ring ditch. A linear ditch is also visible to the north. It is not clear how this relates to the boundary features. (S1) (S2) (S3)
