Full Description
A number of possible linear field boundaries of unknown date and a possible ring ditch are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, centred on TM 24734009 on Levington Heath. The possible field boundaries consist of a number of apparently unrelated linear ditches which do not form any coherent pattern. They do not appear to be on same alignment as the modern or Post Medieval field system (LVT 011) or on the same alignment as the extensive Later Prehistoric or Roman field system (SNH 005) located to the south and east. The ring ditch is located at TM 24764005 and encloses an area roughly 7m in diameter. It appears to abut one of the Post Medieval field boundaries but this could be a coincidence (S1) (S2) (S3). See LVT 011 for the First World War practice trenches. NB These features may extent further to the north but the A14 has been taken to be the limit of the project area. (S4)
