17th century timber-framed building.

Monitoring revealed a series of archaeological layers and features. Late post-medieval and modern intrusions caused significant disturbance within the yard area.

Excavation, Late Saxon to c. 1600.

Inhumation with spear, shield boss, knife.

Later post-medieval pits, 19th century wall foundation and 2 sherds of medieval pottery.

Sherds, including colour coated and samian (S1).

Bronze circular brooch, backward looking animal, 9th to 11th Century.

Evaluation identified widespread ground disturbance in the medieval period thought to be associated with stone quarrying, and pits dating from the 12th to 14th centuries.

Brewery located on Guildhall Street in Bury St Edmunds. Former site of the Golden Lion pub.
