Evaluation, monitoring and excavation identified pits of late medieval/early post-medival date represent typical backyard domestic activity. A single pit of 12th/14th century was also found.

Fieldwalking for Fenland survey in March 1987 revealed remains of a burnt flint patch of approximately 25m diameter centreing on TL 6966 7907 on field surface (between rows of young carrots)(S1).

A small concentration of post-holes within the north-eastern corner of the site were likely to be of post-medieval date.

Sherds of an Iron Age pot with finger-tip ornamentation on the rim, found in the upper fill of the barrow ditch (S1)(R1).

A probable Romano-British occupation site dating from the 2nd to 4th century with finds of pottery, a chalk structure, animal bones, coins, brooches and casting waste probably associated with brooch making. Iron Age occupation finds also made.

A descheduled Disc Barrow of Bronze Age date is visible as an earthwork and cropmark on Brightwell Heath, Brightwell parish, on aerial photographs from the late 1920s onwards.

1979: coin hoard of silver denarii found scattered over circa 80 yards in ploughsoil; area intensively searched by finders and rechecked after ploughing,
