Description

A rapid archaeological investigation survey was undertaken to inform proposals for the creation of a multi-user heritage trail. Three proposed 5km trials were surveyed. Each route was walked twice, once in each direction and the areas on each side were visually scanned for identifiable monuments. Occasional forays were taken off route to fully investigate any potential monuments identified and to examine less visible areas. In some areas there was difficulty to walk the exact route due to the density of undergrowth and in these cases adjacent rides were walked. Monuments identified were photographed and their estimated location was marked on a 1:5000 scale map. A total of forty-six features that could potentially be archaeological monuments were identified during the survey (S1).
