Full Description
From reminiscences of Henry Naylor, Sexton for 25 years - "in the NW corner of the churchyard (circa TL 7755 7263) Naylor found the foundations of some building, composed of what he called Ely brick-stone and very strong mortar. A little to the E of this line in digging a grave he came upon an urn of large diameter, which he says, contained black ashes and a few small bones. It was placed in Bury Museum. In digging a grave close to the path leading from the church to the rectory (circa TL 7758 7262) he found seven skulls. He was greatly surprised at this as the spot did not appear to have been previously used for burial. The N side of the church is apparently bare of graves. Almost under the wall separating the fruit garden of the Rectory from the graveyard, Naylor found a large skeleton of a man" (S1). Possibly same as `report of skeletons found north of church (thatched) by Mr Last, Icklingham' (S2).
