Monument record ETT 012 - Gate Farm

1991: Finds metal detected (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s): fragments of C9 silver openwork (disc) brooch in form of equal armed cross with splayed ends and smaller, similar arms in between arms. Small facetted boss in centre was rivetted into main plate of brooch. Wire pin with projecting double looped spring held onto main plate by a `biting' animal head, catchplate opposite probably had a similar attachment. Certainly an unusual high quality & significant Sax find (S1). Half brooch originally found in 5/6 pieces (?agricultural damage or deliberate scrap - cf Coddenham 22), other half found complete on a later visit when the following strap ends were also found: one with split attachment end with 2 rivets and fairly worn incised decoration (M/LSax?) - see drawing; other fragment only - terminal, very corroded, almost no original surface (not drawn). Also buckle as (S2), but with projecting tongue rest, 28 x 37mm (? Med)(S3).

1993: Metal detector find, silver coin fragment of c. 798, Edwald of East Anglia. Seen by Blackburn M, Fitzwilliam Museum (S4).
