Full Description

Fragment of a small part-polished flint axe, surviving length 9.5cm. Made on a large flake; blade end missing but slight traces of polish indicate that the blade was polished; ground chamfers along the sides. Reddish-brown patination, with paler staining where flakes have been removed from the break surface, perhaps as an attempt at re-use at a later date (S1). Found in August 1996, just off the edge of a footpath (S2).
