Full Description

Metal detector find of damaged socketed axe. Damaged around socket and blade. 81mm long, black, 45mm wide. 3/4 of upper part of the socket is missing through an old break - crack lines and a slight depression on the most complete face suggest that the break may have been caused by hammer blows. Loop also missing. More recent abrasion damage on the blade and on the angles of the socket (thick black patina remained exposing pale green powdery copper compound). 128g weight. Traces of three parallel ribs on the more complete face. Late Bronze Age ribbed type. Drawing in file (S1). Found on edge of field close to roadside pond, c.40m west of Med pottery scatter, SEY 008.
