Full Description
The evaluation prior to a solar farm uncovered dispersed activity dating from the Neolithic to the Roman periods in both sites. The distribution of EBA beaker pottery and associated lithics indicates that this may have been an area of occupation at the time. Several shallow linear features indicate the development of an enclosed Bronze Age landscape. The characteristics of these features are consistent with those identified elsewhere on the Fend edge where EBA activity developed into more permanent MBA occupation and land enclosure. Romano-British features and pottery assemblage suggest a later period of land enclosure and rural activity but that the settlement was located beyond the limits of the site. The extant earthworks to the east and out relate to previous land use, those to the south correlating with features visible on historic mapping (S1).
