Full Description

`In 1819 the Reverend C Brooke digging (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) found a number of bones, an iron shield boss and spear, and bronze ornaments, all within a layer of sand 1 foot deep. Other finds were made 50 yards to the E' (S1). Same as those illustrated by Davy? - see (S3)(R5) which include knife.
"An Anglo-Saxon site it is said was discovered about a hundred years ago" (R2).
Basil Brown locates this (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s). Classified as inhumation burials up to three in number by Clough and Green (S1)(R3).

Also see UFF Misc (CRN 2958) for cruciform brooch found in 1819 50 yards East (same site?).
Re-allocated HER number (from UFF Misc) as UFF 027 (December 2006).
