Full Description
Early Bronze Age pit identified during evaluation trenching at Flixton Quarry. The pit contained two sherds of pottery belonging to a collared urn of Early Bronze Age date. Early Bronze Age pottery has been associated with funerary deposits, occasional isolated pits and small pit groups of domestic origin elsewhere on the wider Flixton Quarry site (S1).
2012: An archaeological desk based assessment was undertaken on a parcel of land known as Cartwrights Covert for a proposed extension to Flixton Quarry. It concluded the proposed development area identified heritage assets had a general low to medium value for most periods with medium to high potential for Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age Features and a possible higher significance for the later medieval focus on the site depending on its function (S2).
2017:Archaeological excavation identified pits of neoltibhic date. The pits were 6 of Early Neolithic date, 3 of late neolithci and 10 of indereminate Late Neolithic.Early Bronze Age Date and were dated by cermaic finds. The Bronze age was represented by forty-six features described as pits with a predominate date towards the earlier and middle Bronze Age Periods. A cremation may also date to within this periods of the site, pending radiocarbon dating (S3).
