Four buildings forming a square, named as `The Howe' and held by Robert Mather, shown on William Haiward's map of Sutton, 1629 (S1).

A rectangular moat, of probably medieval date, survives as an earthwork. It is visible on aerial photographs and depicted on modern and historic Ordnance Survey maps. Medieval finds have been recovered from the area.
